Kitchen Pantry Ideas for All Your Storage Needs

Is your kitchen pantry the stuff dreams are made of or could it use a little (or a lot) of organizing? If you’re like most people, it’s the latter! But it doesn’t need to be this way. In this post, we’ll offer up a bunch of great strategies for keeping your kitchen pantry more organized than ever. We have kitchen pantry ideas for all of your storage needs…from storing dry goods to kitchen supplies and just about anything else you might store in this ever-important space.

Let’s get started!

Your kitchen pantry is the perfect place to keep food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated, including things like potatoes and onions. But it also makes for a great spot for keeping canned food, boxed goods, and other non-perishable items.

Here are some tips for storing all of these things to help you access them easier and keep your food from spoiling:

  • First and foremost, focus on instituting a “first in first out” rule for your food storage in your pantry. That way, the oldest things get used up first, helping to minimize food waste. This goes for just about all of the food you’ll store in there—everything from onions to cereal boxes, pasta, and canned food!
  • Be careful what you store together. Generally speaking, storing like with like is good practice for closets. But when it comes to storing food all together, that isn’t always the case. For example, did you know you’re not supposed to store garlic and onions near your potatoes? They can spoil your spuds faster! The same goes for storing fragrant items near your flour. The flour can easily take on the flavors of the surrounding items and all of your baked goods will become infused with curry or other flavors you didn’t plan on.
  • Next, be sure to store the food items you reach for the most in the most accessible area of your pantry closet. For most people, this means at eye level. Then, the items you don’t use as much can be stored in less prime real estate.

In addition to the food items you store in your pantry, there are also many kitchen and household items you might keep in this corner of your home. From pots and pans to cooking tools and anything else you might use in your kitchen, here are some ideas for keeping them neat and organized in your pantry.

  • Don’t forget about the space below your shelves. Many homeowners don’t realize just how much space they have available in their pantry closet. Once they begin utilizing all of the additional space (including below their shelves) a whole new world opens up to them!
  • Store heavy items on wheels. If you have industrial baking equipment or other heavy supplies you keep in your pantry, this could be a game changer! Using wooden, metal, or plastic boards on wheels, you can easily roll out the heavy items you need when you need them. This saves you the trouble (and potential danger) of trying to get heavy items down from high places. It also helps you use up the storage space at the bottom of your pantry that is often underutilized.
  • There’s a good chance you have some items in your kitchen pantry you don’t use on a regular occasion. For example, you might only break out your baking supplies around the holidays! Rather than letting these things take up the valuable real estate at ey llevel, store them up high or down low instead. Or, virtually any other area of your kitchen pantry that is less accessible.

Now, let’s talk about some extra kitchen pantry storage items you can use for storing food and other kitchen items alike.

  • Learn to love labels! They will be your best friend when it comes to organizing almost any area of your home. They’re particularly useful in kitchen pantries where you’re often storing several small items. You can place all of these items together in baskets, then use labels to tell you exactly where to reach for what. Another way to use labels is on storage containers for dried goods, including flour, cereal, and pasta. This can help prevent you from confusing baking powder and baking soda. Not to mention, it just looks good.
  • It’s also helpful to utilize clear storage throughout your kitchen pantry. This includes on the pantry doors, if possible. Employ this strategy with your food storage containers, too. It can save you a lot of mess and time when you can see what you’re looking for as soon as you open your pantry doors, rather than having to dig through everything you own to find it!
